20 years ago today, a game was released that made a lasting impact on the gaming landscape. It answered the question, “what happens when you mix film noir visuals, Norse mythology, slow motion, storytelling, with traditional kick-ass action?” The answer?
Daphne was a Naiad nymph who caught the attention of the god Apollo. To protect her from Apollo's advances, her father, the river god Peneus, turned her into a laurel tree. Apollo was heart-broken and to remember her for ever, he made the laurel his sacred plant.

Today I learned that there was a photoshoot celebrating and highlighting the inherent queerness of Filipino mythology, with a special focus on transformation and being transgender. Mars (Roman Mythology) is the god of DESTRUCTION & WAR. Although he is the god of rage, Mars makes productive conflicts that brings lasting PEACE. The planet Mars is named after him because of its bloody (red) color. Mars is the counterpart of Ares in Greek Mythology. pic.twitter.com/CosPup8nFe
Stop judging the Greek Gods' myths through your modern lens. The mythology can't be taken out of the culture it's from. Understand the culture to understand the myths. Same goes for any other mythology.
and because of the connections between genshin and the real world... not only references, but how the game is slowly attempting to tie the two worlds together (greek mythology *exists* in genshin impact! earth is real!), you end up learning about our world in the process
Another side note - this still happens today in far right groups who still appropriate Norse iconography & mythology.
